As I make boards for my own work, I occaisionally make some extra boards for sale here. Please contact me to join my mailing list to notify you of the availability of boards.

My icon boards are gessoed American poplar and maple panels. These panels are suitable for all media, especially egg tempera, and also oil, watercolor, and acrylic. I prepare the surface by hand, sized with rabbit skin glue and a cotton muslin interlaggio. I brush on many coats of true gesso, made from scratch with chalk and rabbit skin glue. The boards are wet sanded marble smooth, ready for painting and gilding. The back of the panel showcases the beautiful maple grain and is routed with a keyhole slot for easy hanging. The edges are painted with traditional red ochre. Flat panels are about 3/4-inch thick; panels with an ark (kovcheg, or raised boarder) are about 1-inch thick.
